DOES YOUR HAIR STYLE MEAN THAT YOU’RE SHO NUFF BLACK OR DOES STRAIGHT HAIR MAKE YOU WHITE

What kind of hair is your crown made of? Is it kinky, twisted, dreaded, permed, or fried died and laid to the side straight? Let me give you a little history okay? When Africans were brought to America it is a known fact that their identity was stripped from them. When you look at a movie about slavery all you see is nappy headed, dark skinned, sweaty, wenches and bucks, ready to “pic dat cotton”. Except for the thousands who were the offspring of horny slave masters and over and under seers. Some of them had wavy or straight hair.
Everyone knows that slavery was and is a horrendous thing. But today we are talking about hair. There are those in the “black conscious” community that asked me how I could speak on black issues with blond hair. Well, my first thought was “you must be fucking unconscious”
For centuries, in America, black women had no products that benefited our luxurious hair. All hair is basically the same; the cuticle, the cortex and the medulla. But black hair is slightly different. Because of its coarse texture and tighter curl pattern, black hair can be damaged easily. For instance, did you know, that there is not one specific type of black hair. It can vary from straight to wavy, from wavy to very tight. And is virtually every color. Yes, honey, I did say every color. Black, blonde, brown, mahogany and a mix of them all.

So, here is my question to you…black conscious people…what the hell is wrong with ya’ll? For a black woman, it is all about choice, and those in the “conscious community” who degrade women for wearing blonde straight hair better do some research. Get yo’ head out of your ass!
I pose this question. Do you remember the straightening comb? How about bergamot? Do you remember how your hair sizzled when the straightening comb hit it? How about the perm, the jheri curl, finger waves, pompadours? When you were wearing some of those hair styles, did it make you less black? Ask Madame C.J. Walker, who improved the straightening comb and made and distributed black hair care products. She was also the first black female millionaire in America. Did improving the straitening comb make her less black?
How about George E. Johnson, a chemist and the owner of Johnson Products Company. Who, by the way, made Ultra Wave for men, Ultra sheen, Ultra Sheen no base crème relaxer and a plethora of other products. Was he less black for making a product that could straighten hair?
So, are you “SHO NUFF BLACK” because you choose to wear a certain style of hair. Think about that, and get back to me. Don’t worry….I can wait.

Now, for the white girls.

Remember this woman? Rachel Dolezal, who claimed to be black and was the President of the NAACP in Spokane Washington. For Real Jill?
Really? Be for real Jill. White women had perms and EXTENTIONS before any black woman had them. Black women watched the pictures of white women, with their hair blowing in the wind on television 24/7. Of course, that was propaganda. Of course the media wanted to make black people believe that white was right, and if you had “good hair” that life was going to be a bowl of cherries. Did anything change for you when you permed your hair? Yes, some white women permed their hair to cover the kinks. Do you still do that that for real Jill?
Hey, for real Jill, did you get your Botox injections in those skinny little lips of yours. How about a Brazilian butt lift with some added fat to make that booty juicier? How about getting dreads and twists for real Jill? Does that make you black? Hell no! You would fall into the black abyss before you became a black person. Your hair is your choice for real Jill. Don’t you think?
That’s what it’s about for black women. Choice. Did you hear me? Can the church say Amen? It is about CHOICE!!! For centuries in America, black women had no choices about changing the style of their hair. Now we can be a wiggy, a weavy, a sew in, a dreader, a twister and whatever we CHOOSE TO WEAR ON OR IN OUR HAIR.
Don’t put us down “black conscious community”. Or, are you so unconscious that you choose to remain oblivious to a woman’s choice. And, by the way, while you’re talking shit about hair, what have you done to benefit the black community? Don’t worry…I can wait. I continue to do work to benefit the black community. What about you?
So, next time you comb, press, curl, dread or wash your hair. Remember that your hair is not who you are. If that were the case, ask the millions of women who have suffered with breast cancer, if losing their hair made them less of a person, whether black or white. Breast cancer has infiltrated the black community at an alarming rate. It is their choice if/when they choose to wear a wig, and the color that it will be.
There are bigger issues in the black community. The style of the hair is irrelevant. Hopefully, those who are ignorant to the fact that a black woman’s hair is her choice have learned something. If not, kiss my big black ass! Then read a book!
